Job Description & Requirements
Veterinary Technician
- Restraining small animals
- Patient care including but not limited to taking vitals (temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate) of small animals, administering medications
- Intravenous catheter placement and monitoring of fluid therapy
- Taking and processing radiographs
- Preparing animals for surgery, monitoring patient during surgery including anesthesia
- Cleaning and setting up cages and runs
- General cleaning including vacuuming, mopping, emptying trash, scrubbing trash bins, laundry
- Setting up for and assisting with surgery
- Setting up and assisting with various procedures including GDVs, FUS cats, thoracocentesis
- Keeping supplies stocked
- Drawing blood
- Running laboratory tests
- Working as receptionist at front desk
- Running the computer program to enter client and patient information
- Handling credit cards, checks, cash
- Answer phones
- Applying concepts of triage
- Filling prescriptions
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds
- Other duties that the veterinarian deems necessary
